Anxiety/Depression
Both anxiety and depression often play "tag team" for many people who have these diagnoses. One can disguise oneself as the other, and both play a pivotal role in a person's ability to cope with daily life. They are the two most commonly diagnosed mental health concerns with a large portion of the world's population having either/or symptoms of both.

Trauma
Trauma, in its various forms, levels, and intensities, is like a puzzle. I often refer to the "trauma puzzle" as a metaphor in working with my patients. Imagine buying a brand-new, unopened puzzle. This puzzle comes in a wrapper. You purchase it, take it home, now what? You may put it away in the closet. Or, you may be curious and take the wrapper off, open the box, and see the pieces inside. Examining trauma is very similar. One little step at a time can make trauma seem less abstract and more likely to move towards processing and healing.
ADHD is estimated to affect around 5% of children and 2.5% of adults worldwide, according to the World Health Organization (WHO). However, these figures can vary depending on diagnostic criteria and the population studied. Some research estimates adult ADHD prevalence at 3.1%. In the US, some studies show a current ADHD diagnosis in 6.0% of adults and around 10.5% of children. An umbrella review found a global prevalence of 8.0% in children and adolescents, with higher rates in boys (10%) than girls (5%). Increased awareness may contribute to higher diagnosis rates. *ADHD testing coming soon!
ADHD Testing and Support

ENM/Polyamory/Kink Expertise
Not all relationships involve two people of different genders who embark upon a very heteronormative agenda. Ethical non-monogamy (ENM), polyamory, and kinks are being brought into the conscious awareness of society, and individuals, couples, or multiple-faceted relationships also deserve access to mental health services. It's important for individuals who have either/or all of these dynamics in their relationships to have a competent therapist who can help the person approach their relationship with an open mind, non-judgmental, and normalizing attitude to topics that have been considered taboo in modern-day society.

Autism Testing and Support
Studies indicate that roughly 1% of the world's population has autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This translates to over 75 million individuals worldwide. However, it's important to note that global estimates can vary, and some studies report slightly different figures. For example, a 2021 study based on the Global Burden of Diseases, Injuries, and Risk Factors (GBD) data suggests an estimate of 1 in 127 people having autism globally. This represents about 61.8 million people. Autism is also a spectrum, so the range of symptoms can be light to severe. Some people are able to function independently while others require more consistent, daily support. *ASD testing coming soon!

LGBTQIA+
BIPOC, POC and Communities of Color
Immigration and Immigrants

The LGBTQIA+ community has evolved very quickly since the "official" start of the LGBT rights movement began on June 28, 1969, during the Stonewall Riots in New York City. In the 1970s, we began to see LGBT "light" replicated through art, music, literature, and very few television appearances. The 1980s brought us the AIDS pandemic and helped unite and "uncloset" the gay community that was thrust into the limelight through a devastating disease. The 1990s brought us more mainstream LGBT topics through television, movies, art, and the devastating occurrence that took the life of Matthew Shepard in Laramie, Wyoming. With a new century approaching and since the 2000s began, we've seen legislation come and go that has removed, reinstated, codified, but now come into question again as political climates continue to shift, related to the rights of the LGBTQIA+ population, such as gay marriage, saying "gay" in our schools, transphobic rhetoric, and attempts to codify two genders into our laws. The importance of mental health access to the LGBTQIA+ community cannot be understated.
BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color), POC (people of color), and Communities of Color are all terms that have emerged over the past few decades as racism, sexism, ageism, and discrimination have become centerpoints of our community's existence and ability to thrive. Race relations, in a global society, but also in the United States, have seen unprecedented movements that have acknowledged and admonished basic civil rights of people of color. Since the murder of George Floyd, which took place right here in Minnesota, people of color have been working to build communities amongst ourselves, partner with relevant organizations that promote equality and social justice, and people have taken to the streets in forms of protests to voice their concerns for the continued maltreatment of people of color in the United States and to voice their opposition to the elimination of key diversity initiatives that promote diversity, equality and inclusion in our government and workplaces around the country.
Immigrants in the United States are currently experiencing some of the most overt racism and selectivism that they have ever faced in the history of our country. Even those who have come to the United States legally are facing scrutiny and a tremendous sense of uncertainty in these very unprecedented times. Illegal immigration has been a long-standing topic of political debate for decades; however, now that mass deportations, raids, and movements towards deporting "illegal" immigrants back to their home country are becoming more common, almost no action is being taken on those who have used "illegal" immigration to their advantage. Many families in the US have both legal and undocumented family members, which can often make the pursuit of health care services very challenging for them, as they fear a system that was designed to help them in times of need. It is essential that services for immigrants, regardless of their documented status, remain open and available to them by professional healthcare personnel without them experiencing fear for their future.
